Kathy's Story
A Life Well Fed: Recipes to Remember began as a simple gift—a way for Kathy Gross to pass along family traditions and favorite meals to her children and grandchildren and a way for them to create their favorite memories in their own kitchen. It was never meant to be anything more.
When a few friends heard about her book, they asked if they could buy a copy—which seemed outright silly—selling recipes to friends. But Kathy decided that if anyone purchased one, she would donate the money to the local Alzheimer’s Association. A few weeks later at an impromptu neighborhood gathering, Kathy’s friend Brittany Wille, heard about the cookbook and asked how many copies she planned to sell. A little startled by the question, and with a sheepish giggle, Kathy responded, “If all my friends buy one... maybe 40.” Without hesitation, Brittany looked her straight in the eye and said, “Why not 4,000? You could do it, and I can help you!”

And just like that, a personal collection of recipes turned into something much bigger. Today, A Life Well Fed is in its first year operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, dedicated to supporting the care, education, and research of Alzheimer’s. The cookbook, A Life Well Fed: Recipes to Remember is the first fundraising project in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association’s The Longest Day campaign. The book honors her mother and father, and the nearly 7 million Americans living with the disease today. A Life Well Fed is a simple idea that turned into a movement—one that nourishes both the body and the soul. Because in the end, isn’t that what living A Life Well Fed is all about? It is a way of coming together, lifting each other up, and making a difference—one meal, one memory, and one act of kindness at a time.
