The Inspiration for A Life Well Fed: Recipes to Remember
My mom was a good cook. No, wait—she was a great cook! Some of my fondest memories are of her and my grandmothers bustling around the kitchen, preparing holiday meals. Those childhood moments come rushing back whenever I smell chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven, a Thanksgiving turkey roasting, or spaghetti sauce simmering on the stove. That’s the magic of comfort food—it’s not just about taste; it’s about the feelings of warmth and security it brings. Maybe that’s why I love being in the kitchen. It’s a place where the aroma of ingredients transforms into meals shared with loved ones, creating memories that last a lifetime.

So, why am I writing this cookbook? One day my daughter asked if I had written down my recipes. Until that moment, almost every recipe I’d ever made was stored in the tiny pantry of my brain. That question sparked an idea—to create a cookbook as a Christmas gift for my children. Then, something unexpected happened. Friends started asking if they could buy a copy of the book. That seemed like a ridiculous idea to sell my love of cooking to friends. That got me thinking: what if I could turn my passion for food and entertaining into something bigger—something that could make a difference?

Alzheimer’s is a cause that is deeply personal to me. My mother bravely battled the disease for over 13 years, and my father also suffered from Alzheimer's the last two years of his life. Watching my mom’s memory fade into the darkness, and ultimately losing the connection when she no longer knew me, was heartbreaking. It’s an experience no one should have to endure.

Through this cookbook, I’m combining my passion for food with my desire to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s. Along the way, I’ll be joined by some wonderful collaborators who share this mission. By purchasing a copy of the book—or donating to our fundrasing efforts to mitigate the cost of production—you’ll be part of this worthwhile effort. Every penny of profit from the sale of this cookbook will be donated to organizations who are committed to advancing the care, support, and finding a cure for Alzheimer's.
